How SHS approaches it

Nothing is cut or removed until the temporary support is in and the permanent solution is confirmed. Propping arrangements follow the engineer's requirements, and bearings are prepared to take the load before the beam goes on them.

Getting steel to and into a rural property is often the hard part. Lifting method, access route and craneage or telehandler requirements are worked out before fabrication is ordered, not on delivery day.

- Getting a 6-metre beam down a single-track lane or into a tight farmyard is a real constraint in Cumbria. Section sizes, delivery vehicles and lifting arrangements are checked against the actual access before the order is placed.
- Older stone properties require particular care when inserting steel: wall construction is often rubble-filled and unpredictable, so propping and bearing preparation are approached cautiously and with engineering input.
