Method
How SHS approaches it

Before anything is cleared, SHS looks at what should stay: mature trees, boundary walls, existing drainage, water supplies and buried services. On rural properties in particular, private water, drainage and power runs are often undocumented, so caution and CAT scanning matter more than speed.

Topsoil is treated as a material, not a waste product. Stripping and stockpiling it properly means it can be reused for landscaping and reinstatement at the end of the job, which usually costs less than removing it and importing more later.

- Many Cumbrian plots are reached by single-track lanes, farm accesses or shared drives. Site preparation frequently involves forming or upgrading a temporary haul route before the main work can proceed, and planning deliveries around vehicles that simply cannot turn on site.
- Sloping ground is common. Deciding early where spoil, topsoil and materials will sit on a sloping site prevents the double-handling that quietly adds cost to rural projects.
