Method

    Drainage behind a retaining wall is not optional. Saturated backfill can more than double the pressure a wall has to resist, so land drains, permeable backfill and weep holes are built in as standard.

    Where a wall exceeds modest heights, retains a driveway or building, or supports a neighbour's ground, SHS involves a structural engineer. It is a small cost against the consequences of a failed retaining structure.
